Hudson Dusters

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hudson Dusters were a criminal organization in New York City from 1890 to 1916 and are counted among the five classic gangs in the city.

territory

The gang's name referred to the area they ruled that stretched west along lower Manhattan ; d. That is, it began on the Hudson River and ran to Broadway in Manhattan in the east, to Fourteenth Street in the north and touched the Battery in the south . The gang allegedly did not have an actual headquarters, but if there was something to discuss, the gang would probably meet somewhere on Bethune or Hudson Street .

history

The Irish gang was formed around 1890 and then prevailed against the Potashes and Boodles . Their leaders were Kid Yorke and Circular Jack , who originally came from the Gophers . Dusters and Gophers later allied, but ultimately lost in the fight with the Italian Five Pointers and the " Kosher Nostra " of the Eastman Gang . The rest was done in 1916 by the Marginals , who took control of the West Side Docks .

activities

The Dusters supplied, among other things, the local intellectuals and artists with cocaine ; however, many of the members were self-dependent cocaine users. A legendary thief emerged from the ranks of the Dusters . "Ding Dong" organized a group of children who climbed the express railroad cars and stole mail.
