Huernia pillansii is a species of plant from the subfamily of the asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).

features

Huernia pillansii forms stem succulent , upright, tufted shoots that are up to 18 cm high. In cross-section, they are (9) 10-16 (-24) ribbed and densely covered with small warts. The 2 to 8 mm long leaflets stand as a soft bristle spread radially outwards. They are persistent, but mostly dried out. The flowers are solitary, more or less directed upwards and sit on a relatively short, 2 to 8 mm long stem. The sepals measure 8.5 to 12.5 mm. The corolla is yellowish to brownish on the outside, cream-colored, yellowish to slightly reddish on the inside and has small, reddish spots. It has a diameter of 3 to 5 cm and is bell-shaped in the inner part. The corolla tube varies from cream to deep red. The crown lobes are long and pointed (1.2 to 2.2 cm × 0.5 to 1 cm). They are spread flat or bent outwards and are densely covered on the inside with about 1 mm high papillae. The secondary crown is red to dark red. The interstaminal coronary lobes are trapezoidal, the staminal coronary lobes are flattened and tapering to a point. The pollinium is yellowish or greenish.

Geographical distribution

The species occurs in the Republic of South Africa (provinces Eastern Cape and Western Cape ).
