Hugh Cholmondeley, 2nd Baron Delamere ( October 3, 1811 - August 1, 1887 ) was a British peer and politician .

family

Hugh Cholmondeley, 2nd Baron Delamere, eldest son of Lady Henrietta Elizabeth Williams-Wynn and Lord Thomas Cholmondeley, 1st Baron Delamere , was born during the reign of King George III. born. His mother was the great-granddaughter of Prime Minister George Grenville and his father was an indirect descendant of Sir Robert Walpole , the first Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

In 1848 he married Lady Sarah Hay-Drummond († 1859), daughter of Thomas Hay-Drummond, 11th Earl of Kinnoull . The marriage remained childless. After the death of his first wife, he married Augusta Emily Seymour († 1911), daughter of Sir George Hamilton Seymour , in 1860 . The couple had two children:

  • Hugh (April 28, 1870 - November 13, 1931)
  • Sybil (born December 29, 1871 - † May 26, 1911)

Political career

Cholmondeley was elected Tory to Parliament for Denbighshire in 1840 . He held the seat until 1841. Then he represented Montgomery in Parliament from 1841 to 1847 . Cholmondeley was then inducted into the House of Lords in 1855 when he succeeded his father as 2nd Baron Delamere.

During that time, was Vale Royal Abbey her family home in Cheshire ( northern England ). This was then sold in 1947 by Thomas Cholmondeley, 4th Baron Delamere .
