Hugh Montefiore (Bishop)
Hugh William Montefiore (* May 12, 1920 in London as Hugh William Sebag-Montefiore ; † May 13, 2005 ibid) was Bishop of Kingston upon Thames and later Bishop of Birmingham .
Life
He was the great-great-great-nephew of Moses Montefiore and comes from a famous Jewish family.
While still studying at rugby school , he converted to Anglican Christianity . He was then vicar at the Church of St Mary the Great in Cambridge until 1970 and then Bishop of Kingston until 1978 .
From 1977 he was also Bishop of Birmingham until 1987. During his ecclesiastical career he wrote more than 20 books. From 1984 to 1987 he was also a spiritual lord member of the House of Lords .
He was also a Friend of the Earth .
