Hugo Boris (born November 18, 1979 in Paris ) is a French writer .

life and work

Boris graduated from the French Political Science University (Sciences Po) and from the École Louis-Lumière (École de cinéma Louis-Lumière) in Paris.

In 2003, his novella N'oublie pas de montrer ma tête au peuple ( Don't forget to show the people my head) , published by the Mercure de France, was awarded the Prix du jeune écrivain ( prize for young writers ).

His first novel Le Baiser dans la nuque (A kiss on the neck) was published in 2005 by Belfond. The book tells of the hours spent together by a deaf midwife and a piano teacher. The book, which has won several awards, was very well received by both literary critics and reading audiences and made the author known on the literary scene.

In 2007, La Délégation norvégienne (Norwegian Delegation) was released, a crime thriller set behind closed doors in the Norwegian forests. This novel also received several nominations and awards.

His novel Je n'ai pas dansé depuis longtemps ( I haven't danced for a long time ) followed in 2010, which was awarded the Prix Amerigo-Vespucci . The plot revolves around how a Soviet spaceman spends 400 days in weightlessness - for him a path of initiation.

The novel Trois grands fauves (Three Big Predators) , published in August 2013, brings Georges Danton , Victor Hugo and Winston Churchill into an imaginary close connection. He was nominated for the Prix du Style (price for style) and won the Thyde Monnier Prize. The French magazine Le Point named the book among the 25 best of the year.

In 2016 his novel POLICE was published by the French publisher Grasset . It has been translated into several languages, the German version was published by Ullstein Verlag under the title Die Polizisten . The book is currently being filmed by the director Anne Fontaine .

Hugo Boris names the writers Guy de Maupassant and Michel Tournier as his main influences .

He has also directed 10 short films and worked as an assistant director on several documentaries.
