Hugo Buderus (born March 9, 1841 in Hirzenhain ; † January 25, 1907 there ) was a German entrepreneur and politician.

Life

He came from a family that had been involved in traditional iron production and processing since the 17th century. The family Buderus had the time of birth of Hugo Buderus, a number of larger farms in upper and central Hesse .

Buderus attended high school and studied mechanical engineering and foundrying in Darmstadt . He then completed a commercial apprenticeship and joined the family business. Since 1873 he was an equal partner alongside his brother Georg Buderus II and his son of the same name. Unlike his brother, Buderus concentrated on the foundry because the iron ore found in the region was hardly suitable for steel production. In 1884 the family business was converted into a public limited company. In 1891 Hugo Buderus took over the Hirzenhainer Eisenwerk in his private ownership. With that he left the actual family company at least partially. In 1895 he acquired the Main-Weser-Hütte in Lollar from the family through a newly founded company . He also converted his company into an AG. In 1903 the company was split up into Eisenwerke Hirzenhain Hugo Buderus and Eisenwerke Lollar AG. Lollar AG merged with Buderusschen Eisenwerke in 1905.

Buderus was politically active in the foundry association and was a member of several supervisory boards. In addition, Buderus was politically active. He was a member of the district assembly of Büdingen , the Upper Hessian provincial assembly and sat as a member of the national liberal party from 1884 to 1890 in the Reichstag . There he represented the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Hesen 1 ( Giessen ) as a member of parliament . From 1886 he was a lifelong member of the first Chamber of Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse.

A school in Hirzenhain is named after Hugo Buderus.
