Hugo Rost & Co. GmbH , based in Kiel, is a German manufacturer of X-ray and computed tomography (CT) systems. The company develops, produces and markets these for human , veterinary and industrial applications.

Company history

Hugo Rost & Co. GmbH is one of the pioneers in German medical X-ray technology. It was founded on May 17, 1946 by the X-ray technician Hugo Rost as Hugo Rost & Co. X-ray technology in Kiel. Hugo Rost completed his apprenticeship as an orthopedic technician in the well-known company of Ernst Pohl (1923). At that time, the “Pohlschen Werkstätten” were already dealing with applications for the medical use of X-ray technology and were a meeting place for well-known inventors such as Gerhard Küntscher and Edmund Nagel.

The company founded by Hugo Rost consequently also dealt with the development and manufacture of X-ray equipment. Among other things, founder Hugo Rost was a member of the Röntgengesellschaft . In cooperation with Lothar Diethelm, the so-called “ C-arm ” was implemented for targeted X-ray diagnostics in trauma surgery . 1950 Hugo developed rust the first fixing aids from along with Mathilde Krogmann Cellon for infants and toddlers that still firmer than BABIX cases part of the product line are. The patent for this was granted on December 13, 1950. In 1954, an X-ray fluoroscopy device with image intensifier was developed for the operating room as an aid to stable osteosynthesis . Together with Heinz Grießmann , the company developed the so-called urologist table (Grießmann table), which was later also used as a gynecologist table . After Hugo Rost's death, his company was divided. Production was continued under the name Hugo Rost Röntgengerätebau and sold in 1969. Hugo Rost & Co. remained privately owned and was converted into a GmbH in 1991 . Hugo Rost has been manufacturing industrial 2D X-ray systems and 3D CT scanners since 2009. The first device to be developed was the compact desktop scanner CT50 (50 kV acceleration voltage), which in turn introduced a series of more powerful CT scanners up to the CT130 (130 kV acceleration voltage).
