Hugo of Geneva

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hugo († 1020 ) was Bishop of Geneva .

Life

Hugo is first mentioned on the occasion of the appointment of Abbot Odilo of Cluny as Bishop of Geneva. He is sometimes confused with Hugo , Bishop of Sitten, who was living at the same time . Hugo received Empress Adelheid in Orbe in 999 together with other bishops , and in the following year he accompanied King Rudolf III. of Burgundy on his journey to Germany to see Emperor Otto III. His participation in the councils of Rome (998/99) and Frankfurt (1007) is documented. Hugo donated the Saint-Victor church in Geneva to the Cluniacens and had the Bourg-Saint-Pierre church rebuilt. On October 11, 1019 he took part in the dedication of the minster in Basel .
