Hugon Hanke

Hugon Hanke (* 1904 ; † December 19, 1964 ) was a Polish politician and Prime Minister of the Polish government in exile .

biography

Hanke was already politically active as a member of the Christian Trade Union Union ( Chrześcijańskie Związki Zawodowe ) and the Workers' Party ( Stronnictwo Pracy ) in Silesia before the attack on Poland and the beginning of the Second World War on September 1, 1939 .

After going into exile in London, he was a minister in the government in exile from 1950 to 1954 . On August 8, 1955, he was appointed Prime Minister of the Polish government- in- exile in London by August Zaleski, President-in-exile , to succeed Stanisław Mackiewicz . However, he held this office for just under a month until he fled to the now communist Poland on September 10, 1955. He was succeeded by Antoni Pająk .

According to some reports, Hanke was already working as an agent of the Polish secret service three years before his return to Poland .
