Humbert Clérissac

Humbert Clérissac OP (born October 15, 1864 in Roquemaure (Gard) as Baptiste Placide Léopold Clérissac ; † November 16, 1914 ) was a French Roman Catholic priest and theologian who was close to the Action française . Jacques Maritain approached this group under his influence , and Clérissac became Maritain's spiritual director from 1908. From 1913 Maritain and Clérissac came into close contact with the officer and writer Ernest Psichari , who eventually joined the Dominican Third Order.

Life

He studied at the Jesuit college in Avignon and then entered the novitiate of Sierre in Switzerland before completing his studies in Rijckholt . After the dispersal of the Dominican Order in 1903, he traveled to London , where he hoped to set up a new Dominican branch which failed. He often preached in retreats, especially in the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Solesmes .

He is buried in his hometown.
