Humberto Moreira Valdés (born July 28, 1966 in Saltillo , Coahuila ) is a Mexican politician. He was Governor of Coahuila State and President of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI).

Political career

In his native city of Saltillo, he was mayor from 2003 to 2005. On September 25, 2005, he was elected governor of Coahuila state. He held the office from December 1, 2005 to January 3, 2011.

As the successor to Beatriz Paredes Rangel , he was elected President of the PRI in 2011. He held this position for a few months, from March 4 to December 2, 2011. On August 23, 2011, it was announced that during his tenure as governor, the state's debt had increased by 34 billion pesos. He was accused of having falsified invoices for these expenses, which amounted to around 2 billion euros. On December 2, 2011, he had to resign as President of the PRI.

On January 15, 2016, he was arrested at Madrid International Airport on the orders of the Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office to fight corruption.

family

Moreira married three times and has several children. His eldest son, José Eduardo Moreira , was murdered on October 3, 2012. It was believed to be in retaliation for the death of Miguel Treviño's nephew , a leader of the Los Zetas .

His older brother Ruben Moreira was elected Governor of Coahuila State for a six-year term from December 1, 2011 to November 30, 2017.
