Humberto Teixeira

Humberto Teixeira (born January 5, 1915 in Iguatu , Ceará , † October 3, 1979 in Rio de Janeiro ), actually Humberto Cavalcanti Teixeira , was a Brazilian musician , composer and politician .

Life

As a child he began to be interested in music, especially the flute and mandolin instruments .

In the 1930s he moved to Rio de Janeiro with the aim of becoming a doctor. There he composed and published his music. However, he gave up his medical studies to law to study and at the 1943 Faculdade Nacional de Direito do Rio de Janeiro to make his statements.

In 1945 he met Luiz Gonzaga , King of the Baião . With him he composed a number of very well-known and successful pieces of music, starting with the title Baião . This was followed by Qui Nem Jiló , Baião de Dois , Assum Preto and his most popular piece Asa Branca .

In 1954, Humberto Teixeira was elected congressman for Ceará with around 12,000 votes in the Chamber of Deputies and since then has campaigned in this role for the distribution of Brazilian music abroad and for copyright ( Lei Humberto Teixeira ).
