Humberto dos Santos Leitão

Humberto dos Santos Leitão (* 1885 ; † 1974 ) was a Portuguese officer and colonial administrator.

Leitão served in the Macau Naval Office from June 23, 1919 . From there he was sent to Portuguese Timor as Secretary of the Navy, where he arrived on April 4, 1921. Between April 5 and November 9, Leitão was head of the secretariat and port captain of the colony. In this capacity he was between 9 and 14 November 1921 acting governor ("encarregado de governo") Portuguese Timor. Thereafter he continued to head the naval secretariat until November 2, 1924, interrupted by a further period as acting governor from April 27, 1923 to October 16, 1924.

From 1969, Leitão, now with the rank of sea captain, was one of the first members of a study group of historians who dealt with the history of East Timor on behalf of the Minister of the Navy .

Leitão was awarded the Knightly Order of Avis with the rank of commander on October 5, 1935 .
