The Humic Lake (English for humus-containing lake ) is a small and shallow lake on the north coast of South Georgia . It is located southeast of Burnet Cove on the east bank of Maiviken Bay .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1991 after the humus contained in the lake , whose decay and the associated release of humic acids give the lake's water its dark color.
