The Hunan University ( Chinese 湖南 大学 , Pinyin Hunan Dàxué ) is a state university in the People's Republic of China founded in 976 during the Song Dynasty .
The university is based in Changsha , the capital of Hunan Province, and is one of the universities in Project 211. In 2005 it had around 46,000 students and around 4,600 academic staff.
