Yuelu Academy ( Yuelu shuyuan )

The Yuelu Academy ( Chinese  岳麓 书院 , Pinyin Yuelu shuyuan , W.-G. Yüeh-lu shu-yüan , English Yuelu Academy ) in Changsha , the capital of Hunan , is one of the oldest and most important Chinese educational institutions. It was founded in 976 during the Song Dynasty and was one of the four most prestigious in the country. It is located on Yuelushan Hill on the west bank of the Xiang Jiang . The Yuelu Academy has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (3-75) since 1988 . It was renamed Hunan University in 1926 .
