Son of a bitch
Son of a bitch is traditionally considered to be a particularly serious insult , as it is not only directed against the offender himself, but also against family honor, especially the honor of the mother. In the past, in the German-speaking world, this did not only refer to the sons of whores , but also illegitimate children for whom the mother did not want to or could not tell the father. In youth language , the term has been used as a rule regardless of family background since the 1990s. Depending on the situation, it can range from a provocation to severe hostility, but it is also often used sarcastically. It is abbreviated as Huso . Corresponding insults are also common in other languages, e.g. E.g .: engl. son of a bitch (abbreviated SOB ).
Historical use
The German dictionary by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm lists the son of a bitch as a swear word already established in the 18th century and mentions Friedrich Schiller's The Fiesco Conspiracy in Genoa from 1783 as a reference : “Out, Hassan! Son of a bitch of hell! Hassan! Hassan! "" Whore-son "is already found in 1710 in the opera Croesus by Reinhard Keizer .
In the 18th century, the Economic Encyclopedia knew the son of a bitch - but not a daughter of a bitch - as a son born out of illegitimate sleep . The details are presented under the term Hurkind :

The use of the curse word son of a bitch can be prosecuted in Germany and such an insult can be punished according to § 185 StGB "with imprisonment for up to one year or with a fine and, if the insult is committed by assault, with imprisonment for up to two years or with a fine" become.
