Hushang Rastan

Huschang Rastan (born June 21, 1936 in Hamedan ) is a German-Iranian cardiac surgeon .

life and work

At the University Hospital Göttingen Rastan his doctorate in 1963 and became in 1972 the Habilitation with a surgical method for the treatment of heart failure TGA . From 1974 he was senior physician in the department for thoracic, cardiac and vascular surgery. Here he developed with his former teacher Josef Koncz the Aortoventrikuloplastik . With this surgical procedure, the tunnel-shaped subvalvular aortic stenosis (a narrowing in the outflow tract of the left ventricle ) can be removed. Nowadays one also finds Konno-Rastan , Rastan-Konno or Konno method or operation for it.

In 1978, Rastan moved to the heart center in Tehran as the head heart surgeon, and in 1984 he moved to the Pars Hospital in Tehran as head of the heart surgery department.
