A hat rack denotes the area for storing hats in a cloakroom , usually above clothing .

The horizontal area in the automobile between the rear window and the rear seat back is also referred to as the parcel shelf or rear shelf. Originally, the hat rack was intended to store headgear such as hats or caps , but today it is often misused. It is a popular place to park the bobble dog or a crocheted toilet paper hat .

In the field of vehicle tuning , it is usually modified individually and provided with loudspeaker boxes for the stereo system. One therefore speaks of a soundboard .
