Hutto is a city in Williamson County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in the south-east of Texas, in the south of the county, near Cottonwood Creek and has a total area of 2.5 km² without any significant water surface.
history
The place was named after James Emory Hutto , a rancher who resided here, who donated the land for a stop (Hutto Station) of the International Great Northern Railroad in 1876 . A year later it became a railway depot and a post office as well as a general store had settled here. In 1884 it was a small place with 200 inhabitants.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 1,250 people lived here in 398 households and 318 families. The population density was 502.7 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 76.48% White, 5.36% African American, 0.72% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 15.52% from other races. About 1.68% were mixed race and 26.72% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 398 households, 52.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.8% of these were married couples living together. 11.6% were single mothers and 20.1% were non-families. 15.6% of all households were single households and there were people living in 5.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.14 and the average family size was 3.48 people.
35.0% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.4% 18 to 24, 37.0% 25 to 44, 13.6% 45 to 64, and 7.0% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 99.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 97.1 men.
The median income for a household in the 53,295 USD , and the median income for a family 55,769 USD. Males had a median income of $ 33,125 versus $ 28,125 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,113. 4.6% of the population and 3.8% of families are below the poverty line. 3.9% of these were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 2.0% were 65 or older.
