A hydrocopter is an amphibious vehicle for locomotion in water and on ice with a boat hull and skids , which is propelled by an airplane propeller .

In terms of construction, it is similar to a swamp boat , but thanks to the runners and a rudder it can also be used on ice ( land vehicle ). In terms of drive, they are similar to propeller sleds ( Aerosani ). If it breaks on thin ice, it can still continue. Since the hydrocopter is cheaper than a hovercraft or a helicopter , it is particularly used in the North Sea , e.g. B. to transport pilots to cargo ships or icebreakers .
