Hylocereus calcaratus is a species of plant in the genus Hylocereus fromthe cactus family (Cactaceae).

description

Hylocereus calcaratus has a shrubby growth with high climbing stems . The triangular, bright green shoots reach a diameter of 4 to 7 centimeters. Their side surfaces are flat to deeply concave. The edges have conspicuously rounded projections on the end of which the small areoles sit. The 1 to 3 flexible, white to cream-colored thorns are 2 to 4 millimeters long.

The 35 to 37 centimeters long, funnel-shaped flowers appear near the shoot tips and are white. Your flower tube is strongly curved upwards.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Hylocereus calcaratus is widespread in Costa Rica on the Atlantic coast in the Limón province at low altitudes up to 500 meters. The first description as Cereus calcaratus was published in 1902 by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose placed them in the genus Hylocereus in 1909 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
