Hypatia is an impact crater on the front of the Moon on the western edge of Sinus Asperitatis , southeast of Delambre crater and west of Torricelli . The crater is very irregularly shaped and heavily eroded.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the late ancient philosopher Hypatia .
