Torricelli is an impact crater on the front of the Moon in the plain of the Sinus Asperitatis , north of Theophilus crater and south of Maskelyne . The irregularly shaped crater lies within its own secondary crater Torricelli R , which is only preserved in traces.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian physicist and mathematician Evangelista Torricelli .
