from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hypatios of Ephesus († between 537 and 552) was Bishop of Ephesus at the latest from 531 to after 536.

In 531 he led a meeting which, on behalf of Emperor Justinian , spoke out against the theology of the Monophysites . In 536 he was the spokesman for the Orthodox bishops at the Synod of Constantinople. He also spoke out in favor of the theopaschitic formula ( Unus ex trinitate passus est ; One from the Trinity has suffered ). This was supported in 533 by Pope John II .
