Franz Diekamp

Franz Diekamp (born November 8, 1864 in Geldern , † October 10, 1943 in Münster ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

Franz Diekamp was born as the son of a senior postal accountant on the Lower Rhine . He spent his childhood and youth in Munster . There he attended the Paulinum grammar school . In 1882 Diekamp began studying theology at the Münster Royal Academy . Franz Diekamp continued his studies at the Episcopal Lyceum in Eichstätt . He was ordained a priest on December 17, 1887. After a brief activity as chaplain in Kamp , he became a repetiteur at the Collegium Borromaeum Münster in Münster in 1889 . In 1895 he received his doctorate ; three years later he completed his habilitation at the Muenster Academy. In 1902 he became an associate professor , two years later a full professor for patrology , church and dogma history , initially as a "personal professor", in 1907 he was given the chair for dogmatics and dogma history.

In 1902 he founded the Theological Review and was its editor until 1924. In 1910 he became rector of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In 1923 he was appointed papal house prelate and the following year cathedral chapter .

The Catholic dogma of Franz Diekamp is considered important Thomistic doctrine of German; it appeared in 13 editions until 1962.
