The Omaniundu reed frog ( Hyperolius sankuruensis ) is a frog owl that is endemic to the central Democratic Republic of the Congo and is only known from its type locality near Lodja , the capital of the Sankuru province . The frog was considered extinct until it was rediscovered in 2010 .

The Omaniundu reed frog is a relatively large representative within the genus Hyperolius , males reach a length of 29 to 32 mm, females become 40 mm long. It is drawn dark brown on the top and sides with a dark triangle between the eyes, a square spot on the middle of the back and a band running across the body in the lumbar region . The throat and vocal sac is well developed, the pupils are horizontal. It is similar to Hyperolius platyceps , but is the only species with females of this size in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
