Hypochromic effect

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The hypochromic effect occurs when the base pairs of the DNA are close together and therefore absorb little light .

The reason for the effect is the interactions of the π electrons at body temperature . When the DNA is heated, the double helix separates and the absorption area of the incident light increases. This effect is relevant in the context of Fluometrie (see also fluorescence ), since by the effect of the change fluometrischen properties and so the guanine - cytosine content of DNA can be determined.
