Hypoptychus dybowskii is a small fish from the partial order of sticklebacks thatliveson the coasts of northern Japan , Korea , Sakhalin and the Sea of Okhotsk .

features

It has an elongated, scaly body that can become 8.5 inches long. The dorsal and anal fins are located far back and are supported by about 20 soft rays. Hard rays are not available. The pectoral fins have nine rays, pelvic fins and pelvic girdle are absent. The forked caudal fin has 13 rays, 11 of which are divided. The fish have four gill pots rays . Only the males have teeth on the premaxillary . The spine consists of 55 to 59 vertebrae.

Systematics

Within the stickleback species, Hypoptychus dybowskii is only closely related to Aulichthys japonicus , which has recently also been placed in the Hypoptychidae family.
