Hyundai Steel is a steel manufacturing company from South Korea with headquarters in the capital Seoul , part of the Hyundai Motor Group and one of the world's largest steel manufacturers.

history

The company was founded in 1953 as Korea Heavy Industry Corporation , making it the oldest steel producer in Korea. The company's name was changed to Incheon Heavy Industry Company in 1962. In April 1970, the Incheon Heavy Industry Company merged with Incheon Steel, a steel producer that had been founded in 1964. In 1978, the Hyundai Group took over the merged steel company Incheon Steel and integrated it into the group. Nine years later, in 1987, an IPO was initiated, as a result of which Hyundai sold part of its equity stake. After taking over two competitors in the South Korean steel market, in 2001 the company became a subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor Group, the automotive subsidiary of the Hyundai Group, which was separated from the conglomerate in the 1990s. In the same year the name was changed again to INI Steel Company . The company Hyundai Steel Company was approved finally of 2006. In 2015, the steel company Hyundai Hysco from Ulsan , also a subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor Group, was completely merged with Hyundai Steel.

The main focus of the product range is on products for use in the automotive sector. For example, tailored blanks for bodywork are part of the product range. In addition to steel strip coils for the automotive and construction industries, as well as shipbuilding, H-beams are also produced, which are used exclusively in the main construction trade and in shipbuilding.

According to Worldsteel , Hyundai Steel was the thirteenth largest steel producer in the world in 2017 with a production volume of 21.23 million tons of steel.

Sports

Hyundai Steel owns the Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels football franchise . The Red Angels are South Korean record champions in women's football.
