I-Tipferl-Polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The I-Tipferl-Polka is a French Polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 377). The work was performed for the first time in the summer of 1877.

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta Prince Methuselah . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 375 , 376 , 378 , and 379 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The main theme of the polka goes back to score number 12 of the operetta. This is a couplet that begins with the text Das Tüpferl auf dem I. At the time, this number was one of the best-known melodies from this operetta. The first performance can no longer be precisely determined today. It probably took place through a military band in the summer of 1877. Eduard Strauss played it for the first time on October 21, 1877 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein, and Johann Strauss performed it on February 20, 1879 in Paris .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 4 minutes and 58 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
