Methuselah Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Methuselah Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 376). The place and date of the premiere are not known.

Remarks

The work was compiled based on motifs from the operetta Prince Methuselah , which premiered in 1877 . It thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 375 , 377 , 378 , and 379 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The quadrille takes up many motifs from the stage work and thus represents a short musical cross-section of the operetta. The piano reduction was published in May 1877. The world premiere took place on March 13, 1877 under the direction of Eduard Strauss in Paris. In Mardi Gras 1878, the quadrille was part of the repertoire of the Strauss Kapelle.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 32 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
