Opera Masquerade Ball Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Opera Masked Ball Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 384). It was performed for the first time on February 22, 1879 in the Redouten Hall of the Vienna Hofburg under the direction of Eduard Strauss .

Remarks

The work was compiled based on motifs from the unsuccessful operetta Blinde Kuh , which premiered in 1878 . It thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 381 , 382 , 383 , and 385 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. In the meantime, the work also bore the title Quadrille, based on motifs from the operetta 'Blindekuh . It is not clear how today's title came about. It is possible that the work was played at opera masked balls in Paris. The above-mentioned premiere took place as part of a carnival ball.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 23 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
