Waldine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Waldine is a polka mazurka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 385). The work was performed for the first time on December 7, 1879 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein .

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the unsuccessful operetta Blinde Kuh . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 381 , 382 , 383 , and 384 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The title name of the Polka refers to the operetta character Waldine , who is the daughter of a landowner there. The work is the last that the composer arranged from themes from the unsuccessful operetta Blinde Kuh . It was premiered on December 7, 1879 at a Sunday concert by Eduard Strauss in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein. After that it suffered the same fate as the operetta. It was forgotten and rarely performed, if at all. In 1899, Adolf Müller used parts of this work in the operetta Wiener Blut , which he composed based on motifs by Johann Strauss (son) .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 4 minutes and 11 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
