Parisian polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pariser Polka is a French Polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 382). The work was performed for the first time on February 20, 1879 in the Cercle International in Paris .

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the unsuccessful operetta Blinde Kuh . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 381 , 383 , 384 , and 385 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. After the death of his first wife Jetty Treffz and the unsuccessful operetta Blinde Kuh , Johann Strauss tried to distract himself with an engagement in Paris and to reposition himself musically. Although he did not succeed in landing a new operetta project in the French capital. For this he played concerts and he processed topics from the aforementioned operetta Blinde Kuh. The Parisian polka emerged from several couplets of this operetta. One of the main themes is the couplet The railways far and wide .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 31 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
