ICC Future Tours program

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ICC Future Tours Program (or FTP for short) is the framework plan agreed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for international cricket tours between the full members of the world association. This is structured in such a way that each team plays once at home and once away against each other over a period of five years. In addition, it contains the specifications of the international tournaments of the world association. It is left to the cricket boards of two individual countries to agree to carry out further tours against each other. If a team does not want to travel to a designated country from a bilateral series for security reasons, this series can be relocated to a neutral location by mutual agreement of the respective boards. This was mainly used by the Pakistani national cricket team , which had to host many series in the United Arab Emirates after the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in 2009 . Even Afghanistan currently plays its home matches in India from.

ICC Ten Year Plan (2001-2010)

The first master plan was introduced in 2001 as the ICC Ten Year Plan . This was supposed to ensure that within five years each team played a tour away and at home against each other. In this context, the ICC Test Championship was decided, which from 2003 represented a world ranking list of the test nations. This became necessary after Bangladesh was accepted as the tenth test nation and the aim was to prevent the big test nations from carrying out more lucrative tours among each other.

First ICC Future Tour Program (2012–2020)

In June 2011 the full members of the ICC were able to agree on a new ten year plan. Some innovations were that a two-week window was kept free in September for the Champions League Twenty20 and another unofficial window was reserved for the Indian Premier League in April and May . However, only a few Twenty20 games were planned, as the world association tried to protect test and ODI cricket. The FTP was adapted several times to the new realities.

ICC program for future tours (2018-2023)

On June 20, 2018, the ICC announced a new FTP that will run from 2018 to 2023. This edition had become necessary because the ICC had planned the ICC World Test Championship 2019-2021 and 2021-2023 , in which the nine best test teams compete against each other. Also with the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-2022 an ODI championship with 13 teams was introduced. According to the new FTP, the previously planned Champions Trophy 2021 is to be replaced by an ICC T20 World Cup in India in 2021 . The 2017 ICC Champions Trophy in England was the last edition of the second most important ODI tournament and two ICC T20 World Cups will be held within two years. In addition, the ICC has granted Twenty20 status to all 105 members.
