IDS Logistik GmbH ( interest group of freight forwarders ) is a German cooperation for pan-European general cargo transport. Six medium-sized forwarding companies as well as the groups DSV (Denmark) and Kuehne + Nagel (Switzerland) are involved as shareholders .

IDS was founded in 1982 by medium-sized freight forwarders. Daily groupage traffic began in 1987 .

Company figures

With 13.79 million shipments or a transported tonnage of 2.94 million tons in 2018, the IDS group is the leader in the field of general cargo transport in Germany. The forwarding companies in the IDS group employ around 6,666 people (as of December 2018).

Products and services

IDS offers a standard delivery time of 24 hours for national standard shipping (IDS ONE DAY). There is an additional charge for delivery on the first working day after collection by 8 a.m., 10 a.m. or 12 p.m. (IDS EXPRESS 8/10/12). In addition, there is procurement logistics (IDS BELOG), an industry solution for building and home improvement stores (IDS DIY) and a service for private recipients ( B2C ).

In international general cargo shipping, IDS offers a comprehensive solution for all European countries (IDS EUROPE). The cooperation uses the national organizations of the shareholders DSV and Kuehne + Nagel as well as selected European partners. The standard delivery time depends on the distance. It is between 24 hours (up to 400 km) and a maximum of 96 hours (over 1,100 km).

Network structure

The local transport delivery area is based on the postcode system. The IDS network has a total of 50 locations in Germany. 14 of them belong to Kuehne + Nagel, 7 to DSV (as of April 2019). IDS has a central hub (main handling base) in Neuenstein , Hesse , which can be accessed by all IDS network partners. This is particularly useful for partners from structurally weak areas and allows overhangs to be collected that otherwise could not be delivered within 24 hours. There is also a south hub especially for south Germany, located in Satteldorf (near Crailsheim) and a north hub in Langenhagen (near Hanover ) for north Germany. Both regional hubs are used for the transshipment of shipments with shipping and destination within the respective region. The Langenhagen location also serves as a hub for all transports to the Scandinavian countries.

For the collection of overhangs, it is also allowed organized in IDS composite carriers, so-called NIP to approach s (non-IDS partners). However, this must be reported to the IDS.

Software solution

All IDS partners use uniform web-based software. This includes the shipment registration (IDS ORDER) and the central information system (ZAS). With the help of the ZAS, customers can print out proof of delivery themselves immediately after delivery. This is possible because all IDS vehicles are equipped with radio scanners. There is also the option of determining the status of the shipment for the sender and recipient using the shipment number.
