The IGS Garbsen is an integrated comprehensive school with upper secondary school in Garbsen , Lower Saxony . It was the first comprehensive school attempt in this state.

history

It was decided by the city council for economic reasons and because of the large number of pupils, approved in 1968 by the then Lower Saxony minister of education, Richard Langeheine , and started in 1971 as an open school trial, which is converted into a "year school" in 1976.

In 1980 there was the first class of the IGS Garbsen. Since 1991 the number of classes in lower secondary level has been limited to eight classes ("core groups") and since 2007 to six classes in upper secondary level.

organization

Secondary level I.

The lower secondary level comprises the 5th to 10th grade.

Here, students with different levels of ability are taught together in a class ("core group").

The subjects geography, history and politics and economics are taught together in the subject "social studies". The subject "Natural Sciences" includes the subjects biology, chemistry and physics.

The subject "AWT - work / economics / technology" can be found depending on the grade through the subjects technology, textile design, housekeeping, consumer education and economics, as well as elective subjects "new technologies" and office economics.

From year 6 onwards, students can choose a second foreign language. The IGS offers French, Latin, Spanish and Russian as a second foreign language.

In grade 7, the students in the subjects math and English are divided into E and G courses. The same applies to the subjects German and natural sciences from year 9 onwards.

In the 9th year, the pupils can acquire the secondary school certificate and in the 10th year the secondary school certificate or the extended secondary school certificate I.

During the Easter break, students can take part in an "Easter camp". There they are supported by teachers or students in the main subjects if there are deficits.

Secondary level II

In the introductory phase (11th year), the students learn the basics for the qualification phase (12th / 13th year).

French and Spanish are offered as a new beginning foreign language.

Students have the option of choosing between music, art or performing games. It is also possible to take the subjects of computer science, sports theory or education as electives.

In the 12th year, the student has to choose a profile. At the IGS, the artistic, the mathematical-scientific, the linguistic, two social (with two different inclinations) and the sport profile are offered.

Career orientation

The professional orientation begins from the 8th year and is anchored in the subject "AWT".

In the 8th year, the students in the project "LiS - Learning in the District" get to know companies in their area, which they always visit one afternoon a week.

A two-week internship takes place in grades 9 and 10.

In addition to the teachers, a "training guide" supports the students in their search for training.
