The Koblenz Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( IHK Koblenz ) is a public corporation based in Koblenz . It represents - legally legitimized - the overall interests of the economy of its district, the northern Rhineland-Palatinate. It also fulfills sovereign tasks in the form of the acceptance of examinations in training and further education and offers services for its member companies. More than 95,000 traders are members of the Koblenz Chamber of Commerce (as of 2017). In contrast to pure city chambers such as the IHK Berlin or the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce , it is a so-called area chamber and one of the largest of its kind in Germany.

history

The cabinet order signed by King Friedrich Wilhelm
Presidential chronicle of the IHK Koblenz

On July 14, 1833, King Friedrich Wilhelm III signed. from Prussia a corresponding cabinet order, according to which a chamber of commerce was to be set up in Koblenz. The Koblenz merchants had already mobilized in the previous years and formed a board of directors for trade in order to create a joint representation of interests, an official voice of the economy in the government. The chambers of commerce in Cologne and Mainz, which already existed at the time, served as a model.

organization

As a self-governing organization of the economy, the IHK Koblenz takes care of the interests of the economy in the region with its nine regional offices. The guidelines of the IHK work are set by the plenary assembly and the presidium. The IHK Koblenz is subdivided into a total of seven business areas and is managed by the general manager.

General Assembly

The general assembly consists of 72 voluntary representatives of member companies from the district of the IHK Koblenz. The General Assembly usually meets three times a year and deliberates on issues relating to the regional economy. It determines the principles of the IHK work and determines the budget as well as the contributions and fees. It also elects the executive committee and appoints the general manager. The members of the general assembly work free of charge and do not receive any allowance for their voluntary work.

Bureau

The Presidium consists of the President and currently nine (but at least four, according to the statutes) Vice-Presidents, who are elected by the General Assembly. At the constituent meeting of the General Assembly in January 2017, Susanne Szczesny-Oßing was elected President of the Koblenz Chamber of Commerce for the next five years. She succeeded Manfred Sattler, who had held the office since 2006. The members of the presidium and the president also receive neither wages nor allowances for expenses.

Committees

In addition to the Presidium and the General Assembly, the IHK Koblenz's voluntary work is currently organized in the following committees, which prepare the decisions of the IHK General Assembly in terms of subject matter and content:
