Interim theater

The Interim Theater is an event building for theater, cabaret and concerts in the Munich district of Laim .

history

The building was originally a barn of the Laimer Schlössl Estate, built under Elector Max Emanuel . In 1912 it was initially used by the parish as an interim church during the renovation of the Catholic Church of St. Ulrich . In 1913 the “Protestant Church Building Association Munich-Laim eV” acquired the building and had it converted by Theodor Fischer in the same year . The building was then used by the Evangelical Lutheran congregation until 1956, when they moved to the newly built Paul Gerhardt Church . The old church was acquired by the city of Munich in order to widen the adjacent Agnes-Bernauer-Straße after it was demolished. The building was converted into a table tennis hall for temporary use until it was demolished . Since the plans to widen the road were given up, considerations about other uses arose.

The interim theater celebrates its 25th anniversary on October 10, 2014

The former church, although a listed building, was almost ready for demolition, as no maintenance measures were carried out because of the permanent threat of demolition.

In 1989 the association Bürgerertreff Laim opened the Interim as a culture and event center and was very well received by the population. The name was chosen based on the original church name. Since 1998 the building has been gradually renovated thanks to grants from the city.

The Interim is a place on the Laim Cultural History Trail
