IRTRA
The IRTRA - Instituto de recreacion de los trabajadores de la empresa privada de Guatemala (German: "Recreation facility for workers in the Guatemalan private sector") - is a public welfare institution in Guatemala . The IRTRA maintains several amusement parks across the country, which are kept at a very high quality level in accordance with state requirements. Private companies can register with IRTRA under certain conditions, whereby their employees can apply for IRTRA membership. The corresponding contributions make up a small percentage of the gross salary and are paid directly to the IRTRA by the registered company. A member has the right to use his ID card ( carné ) to give up to five family members discounted access to the facilities. Non-members and foreign tourists can use the facilities, but pay significantly higher entrance fees.
Facilities
The IRTRA maintains several large institutions in Guatemala that are not only models for a developing country :
- Xocomil water park in San Martín Zapotitlán near Retalhuleu (180 km west of Guatemala City )
- Xetulul theme park in San Martín Zapotitlán (on the road from Retalhuleu to Quetzaltenango ), which was awarded the Applause Award in 2008
- Hotel complex in San Martín Zapotitlán ( next to Xocomil and Xetulul )
- Thermal baths in Agua Caliente near San Antonio La Paz (30 km northeast of Guatemala City)
- Amusement park on lake amatitlán (opened in 1963) (south of Guatemala City)
- Water and amusement park in Guatemala City (Avenida Petapa)
