San Antonio La Paz is a town with around 3000 inhabitants and a municipality in the El Progreso department in Guatemala . It is located about 40 km northeast of Guatemala City and 41 km southwest of Guastatoya at an altitude of 1240  m . A few kilometers northwest of the village runs the important CA 9 Atlantic highway , which connects Guatemala City and Puerto Barrios . From there there are branch lines to San Antonio at kilometer 30 (Agua Caliente) and 36.5.

The 209 km² large municipality extends in the southwestern mountainous region of El Progreso. It has a total of around 18,000 inhabitants, the majority of whom live in rural settlements and villages, including El Soyate, Hato, Las Navajas, Los Encinos, Jocotales, El Chorro, Los Planes, Los Amates, Las Moritas, El Naranjo, Llano Largo, Santo Domingo Los Ocotes, Agua Caliente, Estación Agua Caliente, El Suquinay, Los Astales, Prados de Canaan, Cucajol, Dolores, El Chile, El Carrizo and Santa Cruz Carrizo.

In the east and north, the Río Plátanos separates the municipality from the neighboring municipality of Sanarate , and in the west the Río Las Cañas separates it from the department of Guatemala . The IRTRA welfare organization on the east bank of the river, in the municipality of San Antonio La Paz, maintains where the bridges of the CA 9 Atlantic trunk road and the railway line running alongside it cross the Río Las Cañas and thus the border between the departments of Guatemala and El Progeso Agua Caliente, the amusement park and the thermal bath "Agua Caliente".

The municipality of San Antonio La Paz emerged in the 19th century from the Finca El Encinal and belonged to the Department of Guatemala from 1835 to 1908 and from 1920 to 1934.
