ISAF World Sailing Games

The ISAF World Sailing Games were first held in La Rochelle in 1994 . The idea is to choose world champions on the same material under the patronage of the World Sailing Association , formerly the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). The ships are provided by the organizer and, similar to the Olympic Games , the athletes represent their home country.

The World Sailing Games are held every four years, so this event represents the climax of an Olympiad. In the history of this event, following its staging in the picturesque Atlantic city of La Rochelle , Dubai on the Arabian Peninsula and the Mediterranean metropolis of Marseille were the venues for the World Sailing Games.

The World Sailing Games 2006 took place from May 10th to 20th on Lake Neusiedl , Austria. The main venue was Neusiedl am See . The "Sailing World Cup 2006", however, turned into a financial debacle for the implementing company . Despite high funding from the state and the federal government, the organizer Kolomann-Watzek was unable to pay the contracted service providers and companies after the event. Many then joined a class action lawsuit by the Chamber of Commerce .
