ISO 3166-2: CS

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of ISO 3166-2 codes for Yugoslavia or Serbia and Montenegro contains the former codes for the two republics and the two autonomous provinces.

The codes consist of two parts separated by a hyphen. The first part gives the country code according to ISO 3166-1 (“YU” for Yugoslavia or “CS” for Serbia and Montenegro), the second the code for the republic or the autonomous province.

history

The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was divided into the republics of Montenegro and Serbia , while Serbia included the autonomous provinces of Kosovo and Vojvodina . With the entry into force of a new constitution in February 2003, it adopted the name Serbia and Montenegro . In September 2003 the code “YU” was replaced by “CS”, the codes for the parts of the country remained unchanged.

The ISO 3166 country code "CS" was assigned to Czechoslovakia until 1993 . Since the second part of the standard has only existed since 1998, there is no risk of confusion with two-part codes. After the independence of Montenegro in June 2006, it received the code “ ME ” in April 2007 and Serbia the code “ RS ”.
