from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of ISO-3166-2 codes for Australia contains the codes for the 6 states and 2 territories.

The codes consist of two parts separated by a hyphen. The first part gives the country code according to ISO 3166-1 (for Australia AU), the second the code for the state or the territory.

The current country code was last updated in the sixth newsletter of March 8, 2004 ( PDF ).

The current codes are available on the ISO website under #iso: code: 3166: AU .

The codes were determined in 1998 and had two letters. Since the sixth newsletter, there have been five codes made up of three letters, which means that they now correspond to the abbreviations used in Germany.
