I Miss My Death is a Ukrainian symphonic metal band that was formed in 2007 in Kiev .

history

The band started their creative activity at the beginning of 2007. The founding members include: Sergіj "Ghoustly" Krivov'jaz (vocals, lyrics), Jurіj Hutornij (guitar), Oleg Kozlov (bass) and Іvan "Smerch" (drums). Singer Natalіja Brzheska joined in early summer, with her the first concert as I Miss My Death took place soon after. This line-up included She Cries and Mournful Gust . At the end of the year Oleg Kozlov left the band, and a few months later Jurіj Hutornij. Evgen Horoshenko joined in as bass player, and front man Sergіj “Ghoustly” Krivov'jaz took over an additional guitar. For some time violinist Oleksіj Zamkovij was in the band, which she left with Еvgen Horoshenko. They were replaced by Anton Zabolotnij and Olena “Supi” (keyboard).

Then I Miss My Death was busy with concert activities. Three months later, Natalіja Brzheska left the band because of motherhood. Her place was taken over by keyboardist Olena Krivov'jaz. In autumn 2009 the demo album At Her Funeral was recorded, which was released on September 9, 2010. During the recording, Anton Zabolotnij was replaced by the return of Evgen Horoshenko. In 2014 the album In Memories was released, which was presented on DVD and at the Black Sea Metal Fest .

The band is under contract with Metal Scrap Records .

style

The music played by I Miss My Death is described as a melodic mixture of Gothic Metal and Symphonic Metal . Groups of both styles as well as those who acted between the styles are named as comparable performers, including My Dying Bride , Anathema , Tristania , Paradise Lost , Moonspell , Theater of Tragedy , Nightwish , Draconian , Therion , Sirenia and The Sins of Thy Beloved . In particular, The Sins of Thy Beloved is referred to as an obvious comparison. In an interview with the Pest webzine, the members of the group confirmed this impression and drew parallels to The Sins of Thy Beloved, Sirenia, Tristania, Draconian and the early Theater of Tragedy. The band admitted that they did not want to present innovative music, but described the “unique romanticism” of these groups as a desired characteristic of their own music.

According to the band, the music is conceptually geared towards alternating between deep growling and female soprano singing . I Miss My Death aligned their entire songwriting with this change. The concept of the group is described as a mixture of “Beauty & Beast vocals and doomy guitar riffs”. The soprano of Helen Krivovyaz contrasts with the deep growling of Serge Krivovyaz. The alternating vocals are highlighted by reviewers as a prominent feature of the music, which was occasionally criticized as "annoying". I Miss My Death grants a corresponding musical concept. The music, like the alternating singing, is based on contrasting images. On the one hand melodic but distorted and deeply played guitars are present, on the other hand this is offset by the continued use of keyboards, piano and strings .
