The Sins of Thy Beloved was a Norwegian gothic metal band.

history

The band was originally formed in November 1996 by Glenn Morten Nordbø, Arild Christensen and Stig Johansen under the name Purgatory . In the spring of 1997 the band, which was expanded by Anita Augland and Ola Aarrestad, recorded their first demo. After Anders Thue and Ingfrid Stensland had strengthened the band, the second demo Silent Pain was recorded a year later .

In 1998 the first album Lake of Sorrow was released on Napalm Records . Pete Johansen, who had already played the violin on Silent Pain , has now become an official member of the band. The second album Perpetual Desolation was recorded in 2000 and also released by Napalm Records. On the following tour, Anita Auglend, Anders Thue and Ingfrid Stensland decided to leave the band. In 2001 a concert recording was released on CD and VHS.

Since 2001 there have been no other releases by the band. Pete Johansen has since played the violin on a number of Tristania albums .

style

The Sins of Thy Beloved are often compared to bands like Tristania and Theater of Tragedy because of their typical combination of soprano and hard male vocals . The live recordings are much more raw than the studio albums.
