Replacement head of the Iabtet from her grave in Giza; Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum Hildesheim

Iabtet (also Jabtet ) was a princess of the ancient Egyptian 4th Dynasty .

Origin and family

The exact classification of Iabtet within the royal family of the 4th dynasty is unclear. Due to the location and the architecture of her grave, Hermann Junker assumed that Pharaoh Chephren was her father. No husband or children of Iabtet is known. A Kapunesut, called Kai, who is mentioned in inscriptions in the tomb of the Iabtet, does not seem to have been a relative, but an employee in her death cult.

title

Iabtet had the following titles: King's daughter, natural King's daughter, beloved natural King's daughter, owner of the provision of the Great God.

tomb

Iabtet was buried in the mastaba G 4650 in the west cemetery of the necropolis of Giza . A false door for Iabtet that had been set up by Kapunesut was found in the burial chapel . A so-called replacement head was discovered in the burial chamber , which represents a comparatively realistic portrait of the deceased. It is now in the Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum in Hildesheim (Inv.-No. 2384).
