Ian Falconer

Ian Falconer (* 1959 , Connecticut , USA ) is an American picture book - illustrator , stage designer and designer .

Life

Ian Falconer first studied in New York before finishing his art studies in Los Angeles . Here he began as a designer for the Los Angeles Opera to create costumes and sets. In Boston and New York he made other sets and costumes for their ballet ensembles. He drew several covers for The New Yorker magazine .

Ian Falconer is also known for his picture books about Olivia the pig. At first the story was only intended as a small birthday present for his niece. But then came the book edition, which immediately won the American Library Association's picture book award. Olivia was also a success internationally. Falconer then illustrated other adventures. With the highly idiosyncratic and cheeky little pig, Falconer created a figure of identification for the little observer.
