The Naval Historical Team (NHT) was a group of German naval officers set up by the US Navy who, on behalf of the United States, were supposed to work through the naval war history of World War II from a German perspective. It was under the Naval Intelligence Service Office of Naval Intelligence .

The NHT met for the first time on April 9, 1949 in Bremerhaven . He owned the German naval officers General Admiral a. D. Otto Schniewind , Vice Admiral ret. D. Friedrich Ruge , Vice Admiral ret. D. Hellmuth Heye , Rear Admiral ret. D. Gerhard Wagner and Colonel a. D. Gaul at. Other temporary employees were Rear Admiral a. D. Eberhard Godt , Captain of the Sea a. D. Hans-Rudolf Rösing and frigate captain ret. D. Karl-Adolf Zenker .

The US Navy was primarily interested in German war experience in the fight against Soviet naval forces , which they wanted to use in a possible naval war. As part of this work, the so-called Wagner memoranda of 1951 and 1952 were the first conceptual guidelines for the later German Federal Navy . Their first tour also took place in this circle with the admirals Ruge and Wagner. In 1952 the NHT was dissolved after the work was completed.
